Wow, it has been a newsworthy few days, but there are so many topics I doubt I've got enough time to mention 'em all, let alone tell you what I think about everything...
Yesterday morning, I was going to write about how the mercury dipped below freezing for the first time on Saturday - actually getting to negative one - wow - cold! But then, I didn't get a chance to write it, and blammo, yesterday we got our first snow. WAY more interesting than our first day below zero!!!
So I was going to mention that today, but then Bush came to Ottawa, and there were all those cool protests, and I wanted to write about that - even thought I was REALLY torn between writing about that and the "Greatest Canadian" contest, which I have been following for weeks, and which finally ended last night...
But THEN, Pierre Berton died - and I was like, "Man... that guy had like, 50 books about Canada... he was the most proud and patriotic Canadian EVER - writing about him would be way cooler than the Greatest Canadian, OR the Bush protests... and then a segment came on the national about how Canadian values are actually drifting away from American values even though we're so afraid of becoming Americanized and that really got me thinking about how polorized things are becoming, and I thought it would be cool to write about the fact that when asked the question "Do you think the father should be master of the house", 20% of Canadians said 'yes', while 52% of Americans said 'yes'... very interesting...
So I ran upstairs to start writing, and I got write to about here when Carole yelled "Calvin! Amazing Race is starting right now!!!" So I pressed the "Publish Blog Article" button as fast as I could, and ran downstairs to see if that stupid blue-haired guy gets booted from the race yet.
Geez, there was so much to talk about and I've got an opinion on all of it, but alas... no time - gotta press "Publish!"
Posted by Calvin at November 30, 2004 07:32 PMi was checking the weathernetworks ski report...
cypress is operating with one run...i noticed that cypress and grouse both got snow but seymore didn't... i find that interesting
seymore now has snow and runs going...grouse also has one run going...kinda funny how seymore had no snow yesterday and now it's got more runs going than both grouse and cypress
Posted by: vetiver at December 5, 2004 12:28 PMNot all ski hills report in everyday, so when the ski report site doesn't get a report, that doesn't mean the hill didn't get any snow, but they still write down "zero".
I think it's strange enough that the three successive mountains all get varying amounts of snow daily, but only one of them getting NO snow is next to impossible... also remember that it's humans that are measuring the snowfall and reporting the numbers - it's not out of the realm of imagination that one of them might stretch the truth a bit, hoping that if the customers have a choice between the hill that got 5cm of new powder and the one that got 10cm of new powder, they'll chose the one with more snow (even though when they get there, they can plainly see that there's only 5cm, just like the other two mountains)
