Time to put brand new tires on my car again. Anybody remember The Story of the $917 Spare Tire? When was that... whoah, 2 years ago? That was really 2 years ago? I MUST have put new tires on since then... hmmm, maybe not! Well, in that case, I suppose it's not so bad that I needed new tires again.
I giuess I didn't mention it, but back on September 1st, the day I took off to fix the leak with my Dad, I also took my car in to a tire shop to get a balancing done, since I was starting to feel a shimmy at around 90km/h - well, as soon as the guy looked at my front tires, he explained in no uncertain terms why I needed new ones ... there was a wear pattern on one tires that was right down to the cords - in fact, wire was sticking through... "next layer is air" he said. Yup, that tire was dead alright, lucky I found this out BEFORE the trip!!! Karma I guess.
Fortunately I had two spare tires at home, so I got him to swap them onto the front wheels for the trip, until the new tires I ordered arived. It worked, the trip was fine, the temporary tires worked perfectly - but - because this is an all-wheel-drive car, I really DID need to put new tires all around.
I ordered some nice low profile, high performance Hankook tires - and today, I got 'em put on. They're nice. I like. It was $971 out of my pocket this time, but hopefully they're gonna last another 2 years!
Oh, by the way, I've now got over 99,000km on my car - I should hit 100,000 in a week or two.
