I ain't back just yet...

...I just felt like writing. So, no, this isn't a sign of things to come. However, it's a relaxing Saturday afternoon, and I'm sitting in front of the computer after just watching the most recent episode of the new Battlestar Galactica. It's lightly snowing outside, though it was a nice dry day. Well, I just felt like typing, so that's what I'm doing - and I'm sure glad I've still got this blog thing going so that I can do it when I wanna!

We're hosting a poker party tonight, and 8 people will be here in about two and a half hours. I went online earlier this afternoon and entered a 45 person Hold'em tournament just to get some quick practice, and I came in first after dominating the entire game, so I'm hoping that's a sign of things to come when real money's on the line tonight.

It's pretty cool that it's snowing right now - for the last week and a half, since the 'rain' stopped, it has been gorgeous out - well, always around zero degrees, give or take 4 or 5, but always clear blue skies and crisp dry sunny days. Its also that time of year that I love so much, when the sun is peeking over the eastern mountains when I leave for work at 6:30AM. And yesterday was the first day that the sun was actually up, and in my eyes before I got to work - I always think of this day of the year as the beginning of the new year. By new year, I mean when the ugly weather stops, the sun comes out again, the buds are on the trees, the days start getting longer, and there's just a general sense of wellbeing all around, like we're all finally waking up from 6 months of hibernation. The air is always still crisp and cold, but you just 'know' with every frosty inhale that you're breathing in new LIFE - pure new beginnings - and that great times are soon to come. Sure, it's snoing today, but that doesn't change what yesterday was... my favorite day of the year.

So, as I look out the window now, the snow is actually starting to stick. I'm sure it's just up here on the mountain, and not down in th ecity (probably raining there) so all our poker guests are going to get quite a surprise when they start winding their way up here tonight! I hope they all make it safely, and I hope the roads are fine when they leave too.

Okay, so does anyone else love the new Battlestar Galactica like I do? I never watched the first season at all - actually, I saw 20 minutes of one episode and found it so slow and 'relationshippy' that I didn't give it another chance, but then after the 1st season was done, a friend burned me a DVD of the entire season - to convince me that it was an amazing show - and I'll be damned if I wasn't hooked by the end of the pilot... well, it was a three hour pilot, so that's basically like watching 6 episodes back to back. Yup, I was hooked, and I watched the entire first season over the course of four days - much like I did with the 'Lost' DVDs... so now I'm absolutely hooked on two shows - Lost and Battlestar Galactica. Today I watched episode 18 of the 2nd season - geez, how many weeks are there in a season again? Is it just me, or didn't a season used to be 13 weeks? Hey, I'm not complaining - this was one of the best episodes yet. It must be near the end of the season, 'cause they dropped some bombshells - you know, the kind they usually save for the finale so that you've got to wait 6 months to find out the rest of the story... I'm not going to give away anything that happened at all, but suffice to say, it was a total mind trip - they turned everything upside down, topsy turvy, on it's head and I love it! The story has taken a twist that is going to generate a lot of side plots with a lot of depth. I can't wait until next week!!!

Well, I was just about to pack in the bloggin' for the month but I guess it would be unfair to come to the keyboard and not even mention that over the past month Carole has had surgery again, and that she's perfectly recovered. It turns out that complications she's experienced since her surgery 3 years ago, were due to internal scar tissue build ups resulting from that surgery we went all the ay to Toronto for. Her surgery a couple weeks ago was supposed to be exploratory to try to find what was wrong, but when they found exactly hat it was, they fixed it all right then and there, and now she's better than new. We're both so thankful that this time the surgeon was really so awesome and caring, and skilled - two weeks after surgery, and Carole's already spotting me when I bench press!
Oh yeah, I bought a weight bench - I'm not so sure it's turning me into HeMan or anything, but at least I'm getting a little exercise - no harm in that. The bench is in the basement, but for the past month we're been renovating the basement again, so it has been hard to get in there to exercise... the rec room's almost done now though, so maybe finally before we move outta here we'll have some useable living space down there! Anyone remember at the end of Brewsters Millions when Brewster is completely broke and his designer comes up to him and says "We've finally finished your dream office... please, tell me this is the room you could die in" and Brewster looks around and says "You've done it - THIS is the room I could die in" - well, the sigigner breathes a huge sigh of relief, says "thank you, you have no idea how good that makes me feel. Okay boys, take it all away!" ... and the crews come in to reposess everything in the office. Well, that's what I keep thinking is going to happen - we're going to get the entire basement finally finished exactly the way we want it, then we're going to get an offer on the house the next day, and never actually get to use all the extra space. Are we thinking of moving? Yeah, maybe... prices are awesome right now, and if we can find something bigger and bett,er we'll do it - finding ANYTHING under a million bucks in this city is a pretty big challenge though, so we're not holding our breath for the dream house just yet...

Okay, I think that's it for now - hopefully I'll check in again before my 35th birthday, but no promises.

Ciao!
