I'm surprised I've neglected the blog for so long... and nobody has complained yet? Cool...
So this past weekend, we held our anual "beginning of summer" BBQ (hopefully we'll also be having mid-summer and post-summer BBQs as well) and we had 17 people show up. It was a really great mix of musicians, wives, and even a few kids - so the conversation was great, and so was the food. I was on my feet from 3PM 'till 3AM ... cleaning, cooking, getting the door, giving tours, tending the BBQ, getting drinks, and showing people out... so as far as being a host goes, I think I did a bang-up job, but when the smoke had cleared, I don't think I talked to any single person for more that two minutes at a time. BobDog seemed to be the centre of most conversations on account of all the other musicians at the party, that is, until Sage and Kaitlen showed up with their adorable kids (Quaid being only 5 weeks old!) Then all the girls flocked around the baby while the teetering guys tried to keep thier distance, thus reducing the chances of spilling any beer on it...
The next morning was pretty rough - a 15 pack seemed like the perfect amount of beer, since it lasted exactly 12 hours, but the next morning it proved to be about 3 beers too many. I made it a lazy day, and we watched movies and ate some extra bavairian smokies with sourkrout. Althought Saturday night had been perfect weather, Sunday ended up being quite rainy - but it was just as well, since I wasn't exactly up to the weather myself.
Which was just fine, 'cause I had already booked Monday off of work - that was going to be my 'productive' day, rain or shine. Fortunately, it was a gorgeous day. I was up at 8, made myself a nice gormet eggs-benny a-la-Calvin, did a couple loads of dishes, cleaned up the back yard (er, I mean the disaster area), took all the bottles in for the refund, got $27.50 (which was more than enough for another 15 pack), got a car wash, then grabbed a pitching wedge and a 3-iron, and walked up the hill to the Golf Accademy to hit a bucket of balls. It was during this arduous 14 minute walk that I discovered that my calves were really, really sore from being on my feet for 12 hours straight Saturday night - but fortunately after swinging the clubs for the first time in two years, the muscle pain in my arms made me forget all about my calves. Yeah, so bottom line, I'm pretty sore today, and I didn't really even do much!
The weekend BEFORE last was awesome. The weather was hot, hot, hot - like, 30 degrees hot. On Saturday, Carole and I found some nice private ocean beaches west of Barnet Marine Park, and we're psyched to have a picnic there this summer. For that day though, we were content to lazily stroll down the beach, soaking up the sun.
Later that night, we had a poker tourney to attend. Carole came in 3rd again, and won her buyin back, and while I was out much earlier I won all my money back in a side game, so all in all it was a break-even night for the both of us, but we had lots of free fun.
On Sunday, we headed to the airport to pick up Carole's mom and step-dad (they had just been on a three week tour of England, Scotland, Wales) but we were there a half hour early, so we detoured to Iona Beach and watched the tide come in until it was time for the flight to arrive.
It was great that we took such good advantage of the waether that weekend, 'cause come Monday, it turned ugly, and pretty much rained straight through 'till the next weekend - but it cleared up just in time for the BBQ!
i remember my first time golfing since the pitch and put on boundry.... that was last spring... not this spring... anyways... man i was sore.. i got home and had a hard time with the fridge door... golf is interesting because it uses muscles you normally wouldn't use... good cardio though... i couldn't care less about the hole... the driving range is good for me... and everyone who wants to play the real courses... remember sun screen
